The Cool Aspies Club of Northern Virginia is a social club for young adults with Asperger's Syndrome and HF Autism who live in the Northern Virginia area. The purpose is to make friends, enjoy social activities, discuss issues that are important to us, support each other, and to have fun. Check them out on Facebook for more activities. Join us now!

 

ArtStream’s Arlington Inclusive Theatre Companies are designed for adults (18+) with intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities and adults who are on the Autism Spectrum. The companies are directed by trained theatre professionals. An original script is developed during the rehearsal process through improvisation techniques.

A play is scripted and then blocked, memorized by the actors and performed for the public. The final production is designed to showcase each actor’s unique talents. Each company will be limited to 15 people. Inclusive Theatre Companies require an audition in order to participate. INFO

 

Computer CORE is a nonprofit that provides basic computer and job-seeking training for Northern Virginia low-income adults. The goal is to help each student to successfully graduate from the program, get a job, and move forward on a career/educational pathway to self-sufficiency. 

Classes meet 2x a week for 4 months - Monday/Wednesday evenings, Tuesday/Thursday evenings or Tuesday/Thursday mornings.  

Site location at Bailey’s Crossroads – The Lee Building, 5881 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, VA  22041.  (Other locations are Alexandria, Falls Church (7 Corners), Annandale/Fairfax, and Herndon. 

Students also have the opportunity to get a home computer to keep, and to enroll in NOVA, get financial aid and earn up to 13 credits for classes taken at CORE.

The Summit will consist of break-out sessions with concurrent Self-Advocate Tracks (Ages 12 & younger/Teens & Young Adults), Special Education (General) Tracks, and Special Education/Mental Health Tracks.

We believe that youth and young adults really are stronger when they share their experiences and work together to improve their own lives and the systems that are supposed to help youth and families.

The group is designed for teens and young adults, ages 14-22, who havelived experiences in one or more service systems such as:

• Social services (foster care, child welfare, family services)
• Special education (learning or emotional disability or other condition)
• Mental health services
• Substance use treatment/recovery

Our main focus is to offer an outlet for these youth/young adults to express their concerns of being system involved and begin advocating and creating awareness on how us, as service providers, can ensure the system is doing everything it can to foster personal and professional success.

Lunch Bunch

The Autism Society Northern Virginia, Down Syndrome Association Northern Virginia and The Arc of Northern Virginia now offer our popular informative Lunch Bunch Meetings on Saturday.  Every second Saturday of the month, from noon to 2pm at ASNV. Bring a bag lunch and talk to experts about your questions and concerns in navigating the maze of services for individuals with disabilities and on the spectrum.
