The Virginia Board for People with Disabilities is looking for people with disabilities or parents of young children with developmental disabilities to become Partners in Policymaking. PIP are individuals who want to develop or strengthen their advocacy and leadership skills. There is an application process, and if accepted, attendance is required at seven training sessions (Sept. 2017-April 2018). Information and application details can be found at www.vaboard.org. How to Get Where You Are Going: Writing IEPs that Reflect Transition Goals from Elementary through Secondary School

A truly effective transition plan should start in elementary school. This program will focus on identifying gaps in students’ skills that are the necessary foundations for success post high school. Lisa Fagan: is a member of the Virginia Bar and practices largely in the Northern Virginia area. Her practice focuses on advocacy and mediation in educational and disciplinary disputes. She has acted as a peer reviewer for the US Department of Education, served as co-chair for the FCPS Advisory Commitee for Students with Disabilities and has been active in the disability and education community for 10 years.
