BroadFutures: Inspiring Inclusion, Expanding the workforce
SUMMER 2018 PROGRAM  Recruiting interns and employer partners!
(There is a cost to intern participants) 

We will be expanding our summer program to hopefully include two classes. We have some fabulous new employers joining us this summer and returning committed employers as well. We are already accepting and processing applications.

Breathe Body & Mind Studio
Yoga/Dance for Individuals with Special Needs 

All Classes 2:30 to 3:30pm

 
In February we'll offer these classes on the following TuesdaysFeb 13 and 27.

In March and April the classes will be on the following SaturdaysMarch 3 and 17thand April 14 and 28.

The 2018 Youth & Parent Summit Application is now available! Spread the word!

If you know of youth, ages 13-21, who would benefit from a fun-filled, youth-led summer summit focusing on self-determination skills, please share this announcement with them.

Recommendations from educators and parents help give some youth the confidence they need to apply.

Applications are due 
March 9, 2018. The 2018 Youth & Parent Summit will take place at James Madison University June 13-15

Reducing Anxiety in the Classroom: Tools and Strategies for Families and Educators

Join Formed Families Forward to fill your toolbox with strategies for reducing your child's anxiety in the classroom. Corliss Gillespie, LPC with Happy Minds Counseling and Consulting will provide parenting tips and suggestions for your child's individualized education program (IEP) to help maximize academic success for those impacted by child anxiety.Participants will learn how to discuss their children's anxiety with teachers and counselors. The session will include information about how to practice relaxation techniques at home as well as in the classroom to reduce symptoms of anxiety. Learn to recognize and prepare for times of high stress and to prevent meltdowns at school.

This upbeat and interactive workshop will share the,life skills that are necessary to optimize the happiness and health of all children, whether they are your own or those you work with or teach. Dr. Haley will provide simple and straight-forward techniques for teaching these important skills, including a discussion of the 7 essential social skills needed for success. All strategies will be solution-focused and can be implemented immediately.

Executive Functioning Problems: What’s a family to do?

This two hour workshop will begin with a brief review current science and knowledge about executive functioning and associated skills.

  • Practical implications for parents and families
  • Interactive discussion of strategies to support the development and practice of executive functioning skills
  • Strategies to support safe, positive behavioral functioning when such skills are delayed or impaired
  • This workshop is targeted to families with children in grades K-12

Understanding Evaluations in the Special Education Process

Navigating the social world is hard. It can be extremely difficult for children and teenagers with disabilities. This workshop, for parents of middle and high school students with disabilities, will provide important information to help your child build healthy relationships in the social world. Highlights include:
  • Strategies to help teach your child/teen how to build healthy relationships with family, friends and in the community,
  • Boundaries - expected and unexpected, and
  • Red flags that may arise
